Monroe Clinic group gives scholarships

MONROE - Monroe Clinic Volunteers in Partnership announced the 2014 recipients of the $500 scholarship award for students seeking a career in a health-related field.

Monroe recipients include Maria Larraga Martinez and Alex Hendrickson, and Monroe Clinic branch recipients are Jacquelyn Luecke from Freeport High School and Marissa Monson from Black Hawk High School.

The Advanced Studies scholarship was awarded to five area college students who completed at least one year of advanced study (beyond high school) in a health-related field.

A $1,500 scholarship was awarded to Tiffany Emberson, Kaylee Johnson, Jenna Romich, Kelsey Schmidt and Tanya Smith.

Applicants are required to have a GPA of 3.25 or higher and are evaluated on citizenship, need and pursuit of a degree or certificate in the health care field. Each application is then reviewed by a scholarship committee.
