MONROE — Get ready to time-travel through the best decades of American music. The Monroe City Band’s Stage Band returns to historic Turner Hall on Saturday, March 7, for “Eras,” a powerhouse concert event that pits the suave sophistication of the 1940s against the horn-driven rock anthems of the 1970s.

Led by Director Brian Bruggeman, this full-size community big band is set to deliver a performance that is not to be missed. The evening kicks off with the timeless swing of the Big Band Era, featuring the legendary sounds of Duke Ellington and Count Basie. But don’t get too comfortable in your seat — the second half of the night explodes into the 1970s, tackling the complex, high-octane hits of Chicago, Blood, Sweat & Tears, and Billy Joel.

“The band has challenged itself to perform music that the community can recognize and enjoy,” said Bruggeman. “This area is very lucky to have a wealth of talented musicians with diverse backgrounds. We are bridging the gap between the golden age of swing and the horn-driven rock revolution. It’s a challenge our players have embraced with incredible energy.”

The concert will showcase the depth of local talent with vocal features by Jean Woolworth and spotlight solos from Claire Cook (trumpet), Ryan Jordan (trumpet), and Rich Woolworth (trombone). Whether a jazz purist or a classic rock fan, this concert promises a setlist that will keep tapping all night long.
