Monroe: Builders group awards scholarships

MONROE - The Southwest Wisconsin Home Builders Association presented scholarships to Mike Pitts, Jacob Wild and Kent Mehyer for 2008.

Scholarships are awarded to individuals pursuing a career in a building-related industry based on academics, leadership, community service and financial need.

Mike Pitts is graduating from Argyle High and plans to attend Southwest Technical College in Fennimore to learn masonry.

His extracurricular activities include FFA public speaking, four years of football and baseball, three years wrestling, one year basketball and golf.

He likes hands-on work and hopes some day to have his own masonry business.

Jacob Wild is graduating from Monroe High School. He plans to attend M.A.T.C. to master his carpentry skills and cabinet making. His extracurricular activities included construction trade classes which started in seventh grade, two years wrestling and tennis and one year of football.

He hopes to have his own wood working and cabinet business.

Kent Mehyer is graduating from Albany High School. He plans to attend Fox Valley Technical College, Appleton, to earn a master electrician degree.

His extracurricular activities included 4-H and FFA officer three years, prom king, four years football and baseball and three years of basketball. At 8 years old he decided he wanted to become an electrician.
