MONROE - In celebration of the Monroe sesquicentennial Ellsworth Brown, director of the Wisconsin Historical Society, will speak at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 17, at the Monroe Arts Center. This is the second event in the Sesquicentennial Distinguished Speaker Series. Brown specializes in state and local history.
Ellsworth Brown is the 13th director of the Wisconsin Historical Society, one of the nation's preeminent historical institutions, founded in 1846, two years before Wisconsin statehood.
Brown holds a doctorate in American and Canadian history from Michigan State University. Throughout his career he has been affiliated with numerous historical organizations in an advisory or leadership capacity, including service on the Smithsonian Institution's Council and its Board of the National Museum of the American Indian, and as a board member and president of the American Association of Museums.
President of the Green County Historical Society, John Glynn, will introduce Brown. A reception will immediately follow the presentation. This event is free and open to the public.
