Monroe Middle School 8th grade students held their “Float Your Boat” challenge May 30 at the Monroe Municipal Pool.

MONROE — On Thursday, May 30, 8th grade students from Monroe Middle School participated in the “Float Your Boat” challenge.

Students were provided limited supplies of cardboard, milk jugs, pool noodles, and duct tape and were tasked with creating a “boat” that resembled a unique form of transportation. The goal was not only to get the boat to float, but also to have the most unique design and fastest boat to float across the pool.

The team winning the most creative design created a UFO. Group participants included Patrick Harms, Avalyn Schmidt, Carson Austin, Aiden Swanston, Guiliana Pate and Victoria Wolf.

The team with the fastest boat was the pirate ship team, which included Blake Folgate, Brooke Macintosh, Taylor Jay, Alexander Schafer, Mia Golackson and Weston Huntsman.

Community groups and businesses provided supply donations to help make the event happen.
