MONROE - Monroe artist Suzanne Miller has been selected to exhibit her "Fire and Wood" series of contemporary paintings in the lobby of the Wisconsin Arts Board offices in Madison. Selection was made through a jury process which reviewed portfolios of work submitted by artists throughout the state.
The Wisconsin Arts Board is the agency which promotes and supports the arts in education and stimulates community and economic development throughout the state. Miller's work will be on display in their front lobby through June 28. The Wisconsin Arts Board offices are located on the first floor of the Department of Administration Building, 101 East Wilson Street in Madison. The lobby is open for viewing during regular business hours.
Miller's paintings of close-up views of knotted wood and burning campfires were inspired from years of living in the northwoods of Wisconsin. She explains, "Through my paintings of wood and fire, I strive to tell the story of trees. The trees I choose for my wood paintings are not the ones that grow straight and tall, but the ones that twist and turn and have character. An analogy can be made here with the life of people as well - the ones that are the most fascinating are those that follow a different path." The Fire and Wood series has been a 16-year journey for Miller.
A native of Niagara and a graduate of University of Wisconsin-Madison, she currently resides with her family in Monroe. She has worked extensively in the areas of graphic design, theatrical design, art education and fine art painting and sculpture. She currently teaches elementary art at St. Victor School in Monroe and serves as the gallery director for the Monroe Art Center.
