MONROE - "Those Fabulous French" is the title of a free half-hour organ mini-recital to be played at two locations on Wednesday, July 23. Organist Deborah Krauss Smith, who presents the recital series called "Midday Masterworks", will play from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. at the United Methodist Church of Monroe, 2227 4th Street, and will repeat the program from 5:30 to 6 p.m. at St. Victor Catholic Church, 1760 14th Street.
The program will include well-known works for organ by notable French composers, represented by Theodore Dubois, Jehan Alain, Cesar Franck, Jean Langlais, Camille Saint-Saens, and Charles-Marie Widor, including Widor's famous "Toccata" from Symphony No. 5.
The two Monroe churches feature two very different recent pipe organ installations in two very different acoustical settings.
Now in its seventh year at the United Methodist Church, "Midday Masterworks-Reprise" at St. Victor Church was added in January 2008 to showcase the Matthew Ronald Buholzer Memorial Pipe Organ, installed in 2006.
A free-will donation is accepted for each church's organ maintenance fund. More information is available at http://www.coldspringsroad.com/middaymasterworks.html
