MONROE - Monroe High School instructor James Cassidy's 11th-grade Choices in American Democracy students recently completed a project where they were to write a letter to one of their state or U.S. lawmakers.

The students just finished a unit of study regarding the legislative branch of the federal government and the Wisconsin state government. One of the several aspects the students learned about was the idea that lawmakers are to represent their constituents and that constituents have the ability to contact their lawmakers to express their views and ideas.

Each student was asked to address a minimum of two issues that concerned them about Wisconsin or the United States.

The students could choose issues they supported or wanted to see changed. The lawmakers who will be receiving emails are state lawmakers Rep. Mark Spreitzer, Rep. Todd Novak and Sen. Howard Marklein. U.S. lawmakers include Rep. Mark Pocan, Sen. Tammy Baldwin and Sen. Ron Johnson.
