MHS students named Scholastic art winners

MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee Art Museum's recently named the Scholastic Art Awards winners from Monroe High School.

The annual exhibition of works by Wisconsin students grades seven through 12 is on view in the Schroeder Galleria and Pieper Gallery through Sunday, March 17. More than 1,000 individual artworks from more than 100 schools across the state participated.

Gold and Silver Key winning artists from Monroe High School were Austin Coplien, Alex Engels, Kevin Friske, Lauren Hendrickson, Katie Holmes, Emilee Miller and Hannah Zweifel.

The Scholastic Art Awards-Wisconsin competition and exhibition is the regional section of The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards National Program, conducted by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers, Inc. On Feb. 2, student artists were awarded 254 individual Gold Keys which forwards them on to the National Scholastic Art Awards Competition, and 139 Silver Keys, which allows for statewide recognition of their work.

The Scholastic Art Awards are sponsored by the Milwaukee Art Museum, the Milwaukee Art Museum Docents, the Marc and Karen Flesch Memorial Fund, The Heller Family in memory of their parents, James and Carol Wiensch, Ray and Sue Kehm and an anonymous donor.
