MHS second in RVC, readies for District

MONROE — The Monroe High School Forensics team competed at the Rock Valley Conference tournament on March 4. MHS came in a close second, losing by 13 points to Jefferson, which brought a huge team. Monroe was still competitive even with several unforeseen absences. 

Conference Medalists include:

●  Karelyn Martell Villa — first in Expository

●  LJ (Alexis) Coulthard and Maryella Green — first in Play Acting

●  Maureen Cavanaugh — first in Poetry (tie)

●  Monica Pedro — first in Special Occasion

●  Milo (Eirinn) Guth — second in Expository

●  Brayden Liphart — second in Impromptu

●  Anika Figi — second in Prose

●  Marques Smith — second in Special Occasion

MHS has also completed the first qualification tournament for the WISDAA series (Wisconsin Interscholastic Speech and Dramatic Arts Association)  SubDistrict. The Cheesemakers competed at three different SubDistricts to work around conflicts, and all students earned qualifying scores to move on to District later this month. The District meet on March 23 is the last qualifying tournament for State, which is to be held at UW Madison in April.
