JUDA - A Memorial Day observance will be held Monday, May 26 at Mt. Vernon Cemetery.

The service begins at 10 a.m. with the Juda Volunteer Fire and Rescue Dept. raising the flag on the central flag pole, followed by the Juda Boy Scouts leading the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Juda Middle School chorus will sing "The Star Spangled Banner" and the Juda Middle School Band will play "Salute to America." After the address by Rev. Vicki Brantmeyer, the Roll of Honor, a list of all Juda area deceased veterans from the Civil War to the present, will be read by Kurt Jordan and John Walters. A special feature of the program will be a tribute to the memory of Duane Helland, a World War II veteran.

Matthew Reckamp will give a brief resume of his recent Eagle Scout project, which involved raising funds to replace the flag poles on the "Avenue of Flags."

Flags of the following creased veterans will be flown this year: Isaiah Lounsbury, Civil War; Henry Norder and William S. Newman, World War I; Donald Pinnow, Peace Time Veteran; Raymond Matzke, Charles Yonts, Russell Matzke, LeRoy Severson, Morris Grenzow, Harold Judd, Lester Shelton, Thomas Kelly, Irvin Matzke and Steve Carlson, World War II; Myron Newman and Glen Pickett, Korea; and Richard Burkhaler, Vietnam.

Closing the service will be the musical selection of "This Is My Country"; a wreath will be placed on the memorial to unknown veterans by Jeff Kelly; a salute by the VFW Drill Team; and Taps will be sounded.

In case of inclement weather, the observance will be held at Juda School.
