Master Gardeners meeting explains using rain barrels

MONROE - This month's featured speakers for the Green County Master Gardeners are Deb Grams and Jim Haseman from the Rock Prairie Master Gardener Association. They will be explaining how to make and use rain barrels, as well as taking orders for them. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 26, at the Pleasant View Auditorium. The public is encouraged to attend the free monthly meetings.

Using a rain barrel is a fantastic way to be less dependent on your city's water supply and to collect water that freely falls from the sky. For each inch of rain water that falls on a 1,000 square foot roof, you will collect 600 gallons of rain water. The rain water can be stored to water your lawn and garden, and it is naturally devoid of mineral, chlorine, fluoride and other chemicals put in our drinking water.
