ALBANY — The Albertson Memorial Library in Albany will be closed Jan. 1, 2025 for New Year’s Day.
It’s the ‘Wonder of Winter’ during this month’s Preschool Story Time. Enjoy stories and crafts every Tuesday at 10 a.m. with Children’s Programming Specialist, Miss Laura. This month’s tales are all about winter’s best-kept secrets, cozying up in the frosty season, snowy serenades, and the magical mischief that happens when snowflakes start to dance.
The Albany Joint Library Board Meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 7 at the library. This meeting is open to the public.
Do you have a young child that wants to play cards, but their tiny hands struggle to grasp all those cards? Or perhaps an elderly loved one facing challenges with their dexterity? Want to make something that can help? Join us, at
Craft Night with Diane, which can help young children and elderly adults alike with their dexterity, will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 8 making their own playing card holders.
From 6-7:30 p.m. on Jan. 17, there will be a special Creative Capers learning event. Master the art of creating a hand-knit chunky blanket and unravel the secrets of crocheting a granny square, along with techniques to weave this foundational square into delightful bags and/or cardigans. Patterns and instruction will be provided. To make a twin-size throw, bring 28 yards of weight-7 yarn. To crochet granny squares, bring weight-4 yarn along with a crochet hook sized between 4 and 8 mm, with a recommended size of 5 to 6 mm.
Those on the hunt for a pawsitively delightful indoor adventure can bring their furry friends from 3:30-4:30 p.m. on Jan. 21. For some tail-wagging fun, read to the library’s adorable therapy duo, Abi and Daisy.

At 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 23, word wizards and beginners area invited to join the fun to share and be inspired while working on their writing projects with the Sugar River Writers.
Lastly, the monthly book club, All Booked Up, will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 27. This month discussion will be ‘Small Mercies’ by Dennis Lehane. It is an all-consuming tale of revenge, family love, festering hate, and insidious power, set against one of the most tumultuous episodes in Boston’s history.
