MAHS March general meeting
MAHS March general meeting

MONTICELLO — The Monticello Area Historical Society (MAHS) will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 28, at the Monticello Area Historical Museum on Main Street.

After a brief MAHS business meeting, Ray Douglas and Joni Waelchli-Buehl will display their chip carving projects and demonstrate designing and carving, along with providing background on chip carving. Ray and Joni are members of the Cheese City Chip Carvers. Chip carving, as we know it today, originated in Europe. The carvers use one or two types of knives to remove small chips of wood to create an engraved design. The wood used is usually butternut or basswood, which are softer and lend themselves to removing small pieces.

This is a free presentation and the public is welcome. The museum will be open until noon that day.
