MONROE — If you haven’t made it over to the Monroe Arts Center (MAC) to catch a show during their 50th anniversary season celebration, it’s not too late. On May 17, MAC will welcome one of LA’s major artists and songwriters, Karla Bonoff, to its Gunderson Stiles Concert Hall stage. Bonoff got her start writing hits for Linda Ronstadt, Wynonna Judd and Bonnie Raitt before embarking on her solo career in the late ’70s. She scored a Top 20 hit with her 1982 recording of “Personally” and movie soundtracks included her songs in Footloose, and About Last Night, among others.

Bonoff will round out a season of wonderful performances which included show stoppers like “Sweet Dreams: The Stories & Songs of Patsy Cline,” and MAC’s recent sold-out performance of “Forever Simon & Garfunkel.” This year-long celebration has enabled MAC to showcase artists from all over the U.S. and bring these productions and gallery shows right to Monroe’s backyard for all to enjoy.

It has taken many supporters to help MAC’s staff put on an anniversary season, and with tickets going fast, the Monroe Arts Center is grateful.

“Without a strong Board of Directors, underwriters, donors, volunteers, and a talented staff, we wouldn’t be able to have done it,” MAC’s Executive Director Marie Perry acknowledged. “MAC’s 50th year speaks volumes about what the Monroe Arts Center has meant to the Monroe Community since Peg Stiles campaigned and raised enough money to purchase the church property that soon became the Monroe Arts Center we know today. So, we hope to continue to live up to the standards Stiles set for enriching and engaging our local community and southern Wisconsin with the arts. We invite all to come see us at MAC.”

Karla Bonoff will certainly offer a great finale to MAC’s performance season as it rounds out its 50th anniversary jubilee.
