MAC welcomes ‘Classic Meets Cool’ pianist

Barron Ryan, one of the world’s funkiest, ‘countriest,’ most calypso-y concert pianists, takes the stage at Monroe Arts Center this Saturday, Feb. 7.

Ryan brings his Classic Meets Cool show, featuring classical, jazz, and pop styles, to MAC’s Gunderson Stiles Concert Hall at 7:30 p.m.

Shortlisted by Smithsonian Magazine as one of “Ten Innovators to Watch,” Ryan’s virtuosity as a pianist and composer started as a child. His parents fostered an appreciation for all kinds of music, from Mozart to Louis Armstrong, and Billy Joel.

Drawing from such diverse influences, Ryan weaves together a tapestry of music for a genre-bending concert unlike any other.

“Guests can expect a delightful mix of comfort and adventure,” said Ryan. “If all goes as planned, they’ll hear old favorites in new ways, and new tunes that somehow feel familiar.”

Ryan’s released nine studio albums to date and stays busy building his online presence, with millions of views.

Although he tours across the United States, Wisconsin holds a special place in Ryan’s heart. “I seem to always have at least one concert in Wisconsin every February, and I love it,” he said. “The audiences are always appreciative, and the beer is excellent.”

Concert tickets start at $10 for students.

Tickets are available at the MAC box office (1315 11th St., Monroe), or call (608) 325-5700, or buy online: https://monroeartscenter.com/event/barron-ryan/.
