MONROE  — The Monroe Art Center (MAC) is dedicated to offering high-quality visual and performing arts experiences in southern Wisconsin. Through a variety of programs and exhibitions, the center encourages artistic expression and engagement with the community.

From April 18 to June 21, MAC will host “Matter and Spirit: Light and Energy,” a solo exhibition by artist Karen Fitzgerald. The exhibit will be in the Wellington and Muranyi Galleries at the Monroe Art Center, located at 1315 11th Street. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. An opening reception will be held from 5-7 p.m. on April 18. The exhibition is free and open to the public.

The exhibit explores Karen Fitzgerald’s ongoing investigation of edges, energy, and matter through captivating circular works that invoke connections within both the natural and metaphysical worlds. The circular format that defines Fitzgerald’s work speaks to universal themes of unity, cyclicality, and spirituality. Her use of this form is informed by her belief that roundness embodies the natural efficiency and sacred geometry of the universe. 

The paintings in Matter and Spirit embody the harmony between material and spiritual forces, offering a contemplative space for the viewer to reflect on the unseen energies that shape the world around us.

MAC invites the public to join the opening reception. This will be an opportunity to meet Karen Fitzgerald, explore the work, and enjoy refreshments.
