MONROE — The Monroe Arts Center (MAC) recently announced its 2024 Sounds of Summer Outdoor Concert Series lineup.
Featuring a wide variety of genres, the event is free for all ages and is open to the public. MAC will host the event from 6:30-8:30 p.m. every second and fourth Wednesday from June through August on the museum’s lawn. Attendees are welcome to picnic, dance and visit with family and friends as they enjoy music and the summer sunset. The concerts will also feature one of a kind food trucks and guest bartenders from local businesses of Green County.
The first concert on Wednesday, June 12 will feature The Kissers. Bringing a fresh, original kick to Celtic music, The Kissers blend sharp musicianship and lyricism of the ancient melodies. Rock musicians who learned Irish music, The Kissers explore the roots of that tradition while retaining their own unique essence.
The concert will include authentic Mexican food by Venenos Fiery Tacos, and savory summer treats by Udderly Delicous Ice on the Moooooove. The MAC Bar will also be hosted by Green County Family YMCA.
All summer concerts are weather permitting. Follow along with the Monroe Arts Center on social media and website regarding weather updates for each summer concert.

New exhibitions coming

“From an Unlikely Place” by Brit Borcher and “East Meets West” by Vina Yang will be celebrated from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, June 21 with a free opening reception. The event is open to the public and will include a gallery talk by artist Brit Borcher at 5:30 p.m.
“From an Unlikely Place” by Borcher, a painter, will be on exhibit in MAC’s Wellington/Muranyi Galleries, and will be available to view until Saturday, Aug. 17. This exhibit will feature pieces that examine the intersections of landscape painting, feminine experience, and the language of abstraction. Borcher is a visual artist currently living and working in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Her work has been included in exhibitions in Arkansas, Virginia, Wisconsin, Ohio and New York, including recent exhibitions, “What’s Yours, What’s Mine?” at the Blacksburg Museum and Cultural Center, Virginia.
“East Meets West” by painter Vina Yang will be on exhibit in MAC’s Frehner Gallery and also available to view until Saturday, Aug. 17. Featuring oil and Chinese pigments, Yang’s pieces incorporate both western and eastern art styles. All of her pieces are captured under the emphases of light and color, to express the movement and feeling of nature. Her works have been exhibited in solo and group shows at local and international galleries. Yang is also the co-founder of the Chinese Fine Arts Association in Madison.
All galleries at the Monroe Arts Center are available to view during regular business hours and are free of charge. For more information, visit monroeartscenter.com or call 608-325-5700.
