MAC to open 45th season

MONROE — Monroe Arts Center will open their 45th season in September, presenting a variety of high quality and affordable entertainment for the entire family. The 2019-20 season includes 10 performances in the MAC Stage Series, three concert events on the Performing Arts Center stage at Monroe High School, four Sunday Concert Series performances, three free Family and Kids Series shows and 11 gallery exhibitions.

MAC’s season opens at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15 with a classical concert by Beloit pianist David Newman. The other three Sunday concerts include the University of Wisconsin-Madison Faculty Wisconsin Brass Quintet on Sept. 29; the cello, piano, clarinet and violin quartet called enhakē on Oct. 27; and Madison Youth Choirs on May 17, 2020.

The MAC Stage Series begins on Saturday, Sept. 21 with a performance by twice Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Beth Nielsen Chapman. She has released 13 solo albums and penned seven, #1 hits recorded by other artists, including Faith Hill’s mega-hit “This Kiss.” Prior to Chapman’s evening concert, Chapman will conduct a songwriting workshop from 10 a.m. to 12 pm.

Other 2019-20 MAC stage shows include stand-up comic Dan St. Paul’s hilarious multi-media show “What’s Funny After 50?;” the ever-popular “Four Guyz in Dinner Jackets;” New York’s comedic actress and renowned impressionist Christine Pedi will have the audience rolling in the aisles as she performs great dames singing Beatles songs; “The Nashville Hurricane-A Curious Tale of Fingerpickin’ Fury” by actor and musician Chase Padgett, and other great shows throughout the season.

An incredible line-up of three shows will be coming to the PAC stage. On Oct. 4 David Victor formerly of BOSTON presents “The Hits of Boston & Styx.” Memorable songs such as “More Than a Feeling,” “Amanda,” Come Sail Away,” and “Lady” will be presented in a full-throttle rock concert experience.

The Official Blues Brothers Revue, featuring Wayne Catania and Kieron Lafferty as Jolliet Jake and Elwood Blues, captures the infectious humor and unbridled spirit of John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd on April 3, 2020. Backed by a powerhouse band, Jake and Elwood Blues promises a night of music, laughter and foot-stompin’ fun.

Rounding out the PAC Stage Series on May 1, 2020 is non-other than Lee Rocker, founding member of the Grammy-nominated music group The Stray Cats. Having made his mark singing, playing, standing-on, spinning, and rocking his giant upright bass, Lee Rocker will leave the Monroe audience on their feet and cheering.
