Lunch & Learn: The Rise and Fall of the Western as an Art Form and Moral Messenger in the U.S.
Senior Resource Center to host February Lunch & Learn on the Rise and Fall of the American Western

FREEPORT — The Senior Resource Center will offer a presentation by Dr. Andy Dvorak titled “The Rise and Fall of the Western as an Art Form and Moral Messenger in the U.S.”

The presentation will take place from 12-1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12 during a Lunch & Learn event at the Senior Resource Center, 206 E. Stephenson Street, Freeport. The Senior Resource Center’s monthly Lunch & Learn series offers educational and cultural programs designed to spark conversation, learning, and connection for older adults and the broader community.

The Western played a powerful role in American culture from the 1870s through the 1970s. Found in books, movies, radio, and television, Western stories helped shape American values for generations. This talk will explore why the Western became so popular in a rapidly growing, urban America, how it rose to dominance through the 1950s, and why it declined in the decades that followed.

The event is free to attend, though registration is encouraged. Call 815-235-9777.
