MONROE - The Bel Canto Singers, the Monroe Brass Quintet and the Juda High School Choir will present their spring concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 19, at the Monroe Arts Center. The Bel Canto and Juda singers will perform the Mass in G, composed by Franz Schubert when he was only 18, but already known for his beautiful melodies and intense dramatic imagery.

The term Bel Canto means "beautiful singing" in Italian, and the Bel Canto Singers have become known by area audiences for their excellent artistic interpretations of choral works.

Allen Redford directs the Bel Canto group, and Matthew Remus directs the Juda High School Choir. Remus also sings with Bel Canto, and will be one of the soloists in the Schubert Mass, along with Don Zimmerman, Tracy Bristow, Jane Olson, and Nicole Heinen. Jeff Ingebritsen, Madison, will accompany the Mass on piano. His father, also Jeff Ingebritsen, sings in Bel Canto, and will solo in a spiritual in the concert.

Members of the Monroe Brass Quintet are Randy Schneeberger, Randy Sievert, Jo Ellen Moser, Bill Lanz and Mike Olson. Their performance will feature Freedom Trail, an original composition by Sievert, and arrangements of two spirituals by Schneeberger.

Admission is $5 at the door.
