Main Street Monroe is celebrating its 20th anniversary this summer.

MONROE — Main Street Monroe has announced the complete list of artists and local businesses hosting them for its upcoming downtown Monroe art walk which is now in its third year. The event, which spotlights a variety of local artists will include painting, digital, photography, fiber works, stained glass, jewelry, pottery, and Scherenschnitte, which is German Swiss folk art paper cutting.

Committee volunteer, Tina Duemler, who first discussed the idea of an art walk three years ago with Jocelyn Kline, owner of Orange Kitten Yarns, is proud of the effort that goes into pairing each accepted artist with a participating business.

“We have new artists this year and the businesses are not the same exactly, but every year we have really thought to match the artist with their host. We want there to be good energy and symmetry so that they compliment one another,” Duemler said.

The event will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11. It is free to attend. The event is juried, meaning that artists are accepted on a competitive basis, with their submitted work being reviewed first by a panel of local jurors.

Maps will be made available during the week of the event at each participating business and at Orange Kitten Yarns, as well as the farmers market. Volunteers will be throughout downtown directing people to participating locations. There will also be a People’s Choice Award, with the map serving as each attendee’s ballots. They may be dropped off at Orange Kitten Yarns or any participating business, with the votes being tallied starting at 3 p.m. and the winner announced at the event.

Complete details on each artist can be found online, including through Main Street Monroe’s Facebook page, Instagram account, website (mainstreetmonroe.org) or by contacting Main Street directly at 608-328-4023 or monroemainstreet@tds.net.

The art walk is one of many events Main Street has scheduled into the fall, with Trunk or Treat set for Sunday, Oct. 26 from 2-4 p.m., the annual November Wine Walk being on Friday, Nov. 7, from 4-9 p.m., and the outdoor farmers market which runs through the end of October. On Saturday, Oct. 18, the market will have a live cooking demonstration and live music.
