MONROE - Family Promise of Green County, an affiliate of Family Promise, is celebrating Family Promise Week, held during the week of Sunday, Oct. 20 through Sunday, Oct. 27.
Family Promise Week is celebrated nationwide in the 182 communities where there is an affiliate. Since 1988, Family Promise has helped more than 500,000 people with housing, case management and other services. This year marks the organization's 25th anniversary of serving families across the country.
Family Promise of Green County, started in November 2011, has served 66 people, including 40 children, according to the local group. Through contributions, Family Promise of Green County is able to help families, as well as building community between its volunteers and the families served in the program.
The average length of stay in the program in Green County is 82 nights, and 67 percent of the families served by Family Promise of Green County have moved on to independent long-term housing. The success rate is roughly equivalent to the national average, organizers said.
