FREEPORT - The Silvercreek Museum has some special items on display to help celebrate the Abraham Lincoln bicentennial.
Special exhibits on the events in the Life of Lincoln will be displayed in rooms throughout the museum. Pictures sketched by Lloyd Ostendorf depicting Mary and Abe Lincoln celebrating Christmas and another sketch of Lincoln watching his sons playing with their present of a train set will be displayed in the new Christmas room on the museum's second floor. A pioneer 1800 Christmas tree, doll houses and Christmas villages will decorate the room. Featured in another exhibit are sketches by Roger Hill of some houses that were in Freeport in 1858 at the time of the Lincoln and Douglas debate. Dolls of the Lincoln and Civil War era will be included in the displays.
These items will be on display beginning Aug. 1 through the end of the 2009 season Oct. 25. Hours of operation for Aug. 1-22 are noon to 4 p.m. Cost to tour the museum is $3 for adults and children under 12 are admitted for free. Other open dates for the Silvercreek Museum are as follows: Sept. 7, 18, 19 and 20; Oct. 10 -11 and Oct. 24-25. The September and October dates also include the operation of the SilverCreek and Stephenson Railroad, the Silver Creek Depot and the Freight House gift shop. Hours of operation for these dates are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the train leaving the depot every hour on the hour throughout the day.
