MONROE - Monroe Public Library will waive fines for food during its annual Food for Fines days. Food items that are exchanged for waiver of fines will be donated to the Green County Interchurch Food Pantry or to the Green County Humane Society.
The rate of exchange is one unopened human or pet food item in its original packaging in exchange for $1 in fines. All human or pet food items that are unopened and in original wrapping will be accepted no matter how large or small.
Monroe Public Library's Food for Fines days are Monday, Dec. 14 through Saturday, Dec. 19. Hours to exchange food for fines are 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, Dec. 14-17; 9 a.m. to 5;30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, and 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19. Patrons bringing food to exchange for waiver of fines should bring items to the circulation desk.
The exchange of food for fines applies only to overdue items from the Monroe Public Library collection. Fines for lost or damaged items and materials belonging to other libraries are excluded for purposes of the exchange.
