Library to offer wireless Internet access

NEW GLARUS - The New Glarus community has a new Wireless Hot Spot - the New Glarus Public Library. Free wireless Internet will be available during regular Library hours (10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday).

Users will be able to bring in their wireless-enabled laptop or PDA (with a fully charged battery) and use the wireless connection inside the library. Due to space limitations and related safety/security concerns, laptops, etc. cannot be plugged into any Library or Village Hall electrical outlets/wall jacks.

Part of this wireless access project involved having a comfortable space in the Library for patrons to use their wireless devices. To this end the Library has added four new upholstered chairs - two of them feature a small table that's perfect for laptop use. Wireless users will be held to the New Glarus Public Library's Internet Acceptable Use Agreement and must be able to set up their wireless connection independently. An FAQ sheet is available at the Library's Desk.

This entire Wireless Internet project was made possible through funding from the New Glarus Community Foundation/Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin, the South Central Library System (using federal LSTA funds), the Town of New Glarus, and the Village of New Glarus. Ongoing funding for wireless Internet will be paid out of the Library's yearly operating budget.
