MONROE - A book sale began on Monday, March 7 and will continue through March 19. New items are added daily as books are taken off the shelves. Spring cleaning is underway at the Monroe Public Library as staff clear tired and worn books from the shelves to make room for new materials.

"Weeding or removing dated and time worn books is a part of maintaining a healthy collection," said Kris Ault, Youth Services Coordinator. "We will be replacing classic and well known books with new copies, of course. All the books that are removed will go into our 'Hot Off the Shelves' book sale in the Aebley Reading Room."

Each day will feature a special offer. Shoppers might fill a bag of with science fiction, mysteries, or adult fiction books for just $1. Bags of paperback books priced at $2 each will be available as well. All patrons are welcome to register for the door prizes that will be given away at the end of the sale. Local merchants have been generous with their donations of gift cards and certificates. Each basket also contains specialty coffee, a mug, and snacks to enjoy with a brand new book.

Proceeds from the 'Hot Off the Shelves' sale will be used to purchase new books. The library welcomes suggestions for new books, authors, and areas of interest. All library services including children's programs will continue during the book sale.
