MONROE - The Youth Services Department of the Monroe Public Library invites children and their families to join Youth Services Coordinator Kris Ault and the library's VolunTEENs as they "Rock 'n' Read" Tuesday, March 1.

"Rock 'n' Read" is being held as part of the world's largest celebration of reading, The National Education Association's Read Across America. Read Across America has been held each year since 1998 in honor of the March 2 birthday of famous children's author Theodor Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss.

This year will mark the twelfth year that the Monroe Public Library has hosted a program in honor of books and reading. In celebration of Read Across America this year, Ault and the teen volunteers will read continuously beginning at 6:30 p.m. Families may travel to each reader and listen to favorite children's books. Stories featured this year will include Dr. Seuss titles, poetry, and classic children's stories.

At 7:15 p.m., readers will give up their rocking chairs and offer them to families so they can "Rock 'n' Read" on their own. The evening will end with refreshments and singing "Happy Birthday" to Dr. Seuss.

Youth Services events at the Monroe Public Library are open to children of all abilities. If accommodations are needed, contact the Youth Services Department at (608) 328-7026 at least 24 hours before the program.
