MONROE - Monroe Public Library now offers a mobile hotspot available for checkout.
The mobile hotspot will allow library users to take wireless internet home with them for free. With a library card, any person 18 and older can "borrow the internet" by checking out the hotspot for one week. This internet access can provide opportunities for education and entertainment. Families can use it for children's homework assignments, adults can do a work project from home or anyone can browse their favorite websites, use email or watch streaming video.
Community members who rely on the wireless internet provided during the library's open hours may appreciate the ability to use the internet both outside the library and outside of library hours. Devices such as laptop computers, tablets and smartphones can connect to the wireless signal provided by the hotspot.
This new offer is part of a pilot program of the South Central Library System, so those who borrow the hotspot should understand that the hotspot may not work with all devices and may not provide good wireless coverage in some areas. Borrowers can fill out a survey about their experience, helping the library understand the successes and issues of the program as it moves toward making this technology available on a more permanent basis.
For more information about the hotspot, contact the Monroe Public Library at 608-328-7010.
