Lena Volunteer Fire Department plans 150th anniversary celebration
News Brief with BKG

LENA — To celebrate their 150th anniversary of service, the Lena Volunteer Fire Department is planning a celebration for Saturday, Aug. 3. Rich with tradition, the day will feature an antique fire engine parade at 1 p.m. with a dedication at the Lena Fire Station at 2 p.m. After the dedication, the station will be open for two hours to give guests a chance to explore the station and view the vehicles and equipment, as well as interact with current and former volunteer firefighters. A meal will be served. The evening will conclude with fireworks from behind the Lena schools.

To commemorate their community service, the Lena Fire Department is seeking photographs to create a 150th anniversary memory book of the Lena Volunteer Fire Department. Area residents are encouraged to submit personal stories and photos they have taken of the Lena Volunteer Fire Department fighting fires and serving the area communities. Both printed and high-resolution digital photos are sought to add to the book. Photo credits will be given where noted. Photos should be sent by June 15 to Shane Gerber, Lena Volunteer Fire Department, 405 West Railroad Street, Lena, IL 61048. If an address is included on the back of the photo with the name of the photographer, the photo will be returned. Digital images can be emailed to

lenafire@hotmail.com. Books will be available to purchase; details will be forthcoming.
