Lena Shakedown will be Saturday

LENA - Lena Area Special Event Runners will host its Lena Shakedown from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday at 9426 Wagner Road.

The Food Village will showcase many area restaurants and food vendors. Food vendors and non-profit organizations participating include: The Rafters, Saporito's Pizzeria, Café 217, Cedar Inn, AJ's Lena Maid Meats, Rt 73 Brew and Chew, Natural Healing Express, Lena Q's Cotton Candy and Lena Brewing Company.

The Lena United Methodist Church will be in charge of the AJ's Lena Maid Meats vendor area. The Friends of the Pecatonica River Group will be selling water and the Lena Boy Scouts will be selling Lemon Shake Ups.

The Smoking Hot Barbecue contest will begin at 8 a.m. for participants. Pit masters will compete for the tastiest barbecue with baby back ribs, whole turkey breast, boneless pork loin, whole beef tenderloin and a mystery "meat." Sponsors include: Laneview AG, Heid Repair, Excalibur Seasoning, Stephenson Farm Service, Lena State Bank, Regez Supply Co. Inc., Mahon Farms Pioneer Seeds, AJ's Lena Maid Meats, The Flash, Keltner Farms, Rogers Brothers, Lena Sign Shop and Apple River State Bank.

The Lena Shakedown will also feature a vintage and antique car show. Classes include: Pre-1950s, 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s-plus, Stock Truck, Mod Truck, Hot Rods, motorcycles, special interest and tractors. Goody bags including dash plaques will be handed out for the first 125 registered entrants, and trophies will be awarded for the top three in each class and best of show. Pre-registration is encouraged.

The headline act will be Nashville recording artist Corey Cox, whose first single is "Wake Up Drunk." Cox will perform around 9 p.m. Kim Lepak of WCCI will DJ and host the stage for the day. Local band Just for Kicks will perform several rock and roll tunes following the car show. Nashville recording artist and national act Joe Denim and the Aaron Whalen Band will also perform. JaJa Media will be sponsoring the VIP area.
