MONROE - Oliver Lees of Monroe Middle School has won the state competition of the Economics Wisconsin Invest Write Contest. The topic for his essay was "Why is putting all of your eggs in one basket a bad idea when you are saving and investing for the future?" Lees explained diversification and recommended purchasing the stock Fastenol and treasury bonds in his essay.

Lees wrote the essay as part of his eighth grade Marketing and Money class after playing the Economics Wisconsin Stock Market Game. Participation in the essay contest reinforces knowledge, hones critical thinking skills, and improves writing skills.

Lees attended a banquet with his family and Rae Wellnitz, Business Education teacher, in Delafield to receive his awards. Oliver won a $500 savings bond, medal, T-shirt, and certificates.
