DARLINGTON — The Lafayette County Historical and Genealogy Society (LCHGS) is seeking participants for next year’s “Night (and Day) at the Museum” from Sept. 19-21, 2025. This fun event is family friendly, indoors and outdoors, rain or shine, in Darlington’s Veterans Park, and the society’s museum.
Last held in 2023, the event is the third weekend in September every other year to avoid conflicting with Green County Cheese Days in Monroe, Warren’s Pumpkin Festival or Mineral Point’s Cornishfest.
Knowing that sought-after food vendors, crafters, musicians and historical reenactors fill their calendars with favored events early, the society wants to extend the invitation to all and is hoping for early commitments to aid in planning the event. Participation is free (no charge for space) and attendance is free to the public. Non-profit organization fundraiser booths are also welcome.
This is a county-wide community event and a celebration of Lafayette County’s history from pre-settlement to today and will include Native American, Fur Trade Era, Pioneers, War of 1812, Civil War, and more modern history. There will be demonstrations of pioneer skills including archery, shooting, cannons, fire starting, and more. There will be special displays of ancient artifacts, quilt collections, and other artifacts. This well attended event is a great time to showcase local charitable efforts and all are welcome.
Friday is “schools day” and all county schools are encouraged to send classes for an educational field trip. LCHGS will pay for bus transportation with grant funding from Wiegel Strong Foundation. Saturday includes craft fair, farmers market, and live music in the park.
