MONROE — Laurel Taylor, RN, SSM Health Monroe Hospital Emergency Department nurse, has been awarded the DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award. Laurel has been providing compassionate nursing care to SSM Health Monroe Hospital’s patients for almost 45 years.
Laurel was nominated by Samantha Hendrickson, RN, Taylor Foecking, RN, and Lindsey Bueschel, Diabetes Care & Education Specialist. Their joint nomination shared:
“Laurel embraces all new changes within the department, whether it’s new technology, seeking solutions to improve patient outcomes or continuously refining her skills. Her ability to think critically and adapt to the evolving health care needs fosters a culture of innovation.
Laurel has helped me to become the nurse I am today. Even off orientation, she continues to be a mentor, supporting me through each situation I encounter as a new nurse. She supports nurses by offering guidance, mentorship, and a sense of community. Laurel provides advice on how to handle difficult cases for newer nurses as well as simply offering emotional support to all.
She is the silent leader in the background, quietly guiding the team through the strength of her actions rather than words. Laurel leads by example, consistently demonstrating excellence in patient care and professionalism. Whether it is staying late to care for a critical patient, providing support to colleagues during busy moments, or calmly managing challenging situations, Laurel’s presence speaks volumes. Her impact is felt in the ways others strive to mirror her approach.”
The DAISY Award is an international program that celebrates the extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care delivered by nurses every day.
