DARLINGTON — Lafayette County Rural Safety Coalition will be holding the 16th Rural Safety Day for all fourth and fifth grade students in Lafayette County.

The event will take place at the Lafayette County Fairgrounds from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18. This event will include a mock UTV accident, along with 10 breakout sessions with the intent to teach our children about risks of their rural environment and equipment and how to be safe on and around those risks. Safety topics include ATV/UTV, Water, Mental Health First Aid, Electrical, Grain, Animal, Skid Steer, Tick/Mosquito, Weather and Internet.

Be aware that this event will utilize emergency equipment including sirens, vehicles and personnel for demonstration.

Representatives from the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department, Local Police Departments, WI DNR, WI State Patrol, Darlington and Shullsburg Fire Departments, Center Hill Vet, Lafayette County Health Department, Lafayette County EMS, Lafayette County Human Services, Lafayette County-UW Extension, Lafayette Hospital & Clinics, K & L Bobcat, WI Vector-borne Disease Unit, National Weather Service, UW Med-Flight, and Scenic Rivers Energy Cooperative will be there to provide education.

This event is closed to the public. There is no cost to our schools. Funding is supported by grants and donations.

Lafayette County Rural Safety Coalition is a group of individuals representing several agencies, both public and private, with the intent to prevent death and injury in the youth of Lafayette County.
