ALBANY — A fishing competition is taking place this weekend on the Sugar River.
The Carp-O-Rama looks to rid the river of invasive and predatory Carp. Categories include bow fishing, hook/line/spear/hand. No seine netting allowed.
Carp must be caught from the Sugar river in Albany or on the mill pons (Lake Winnetka), upstream of the Albany Dam.
First place wins $75, and places second through fourth also receive a cash prize. There is a $100 bonus for the largest carp measured by weight. Kids 14 and under can win fishing gear prizes with a $50 prize for largest carp by weight. Only carp will be counted, and weigh-ins will be at 5 p.m. on Aug. 30 and 3 p.m. on Aug. 31.
All youth 14 and under on a boat must abide by PFD requirements.
