FREEPORT — Chris Kuberski, President of Highland Community College, has been accepted as a new member of AFIT (Alliance for Innovation & Transformation).
AFIT is a group of trendsetters, a forward-thinking institution committed to working with higher education institutions about how to innovate and transform colleges in the face of unprecedented challenge and change. AFIT offers learning, development and networking opportunities focused on helping colleges achieve long-term feasibility.
“I felt joining AFIT would expand my network and support system while providing opportunities for me to grow and learn professionally and personally,” Kuberski said. “As a new president, I will benefit from the seasoned perspectives and experiences of other presidents.”
Kuberski said the time is right for Highland Community College and other institutions of higher education, to reimagine how to provide education and support services to emerge from COVID restrictions. Highland seeks to be relevant, resilient and refreshed as it adjusts to new expectations of students, partners, and donors.
Highland has benefited from initiatives taken by Kuberski such as the transformation of student spaces on campus. This transformation stems from a Learning Spaces audit that was conducted to evaluate learning and gathering spaces for students which included classrooms, laboratories, lobbies and the cafeteria.
Kuberski led the effort that was done through a cross-section of the campus community. As a result, Highland’s science labs will be remodeled and modernized within the next five years. Several classrooms have been redesigned to promote student engagement and to be ADA compliant.
