June MAHS meeting June 26

MONTICELLO — The Monticello Area Historical Society (MAHS) will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 26 in the Zwingli UCC Lounge, 416 E. Lake Ave., Monticello.

After a brief MAHS business meeting, Jim Beer will present a program on his “Bird stone Collection of Native American Indian Artifacts.” The most credible theory is that the bird stone was used as a weight on a dart- or spear-thrower, or atlatl, a short, hooked rod. Beer started hunting artifacts with the late Ralph Hammerly of Monticello and Freeman Boeck of Brodhead in 1972. Guests will find this presentation to be informative and educational.

This is a free presentation and the public is welcome.
