JUDA - Students in kindergarten through eighth grade participated in Juda School's annual Fine Arts Day on Tuesday, March 25. Students rotated between five different artistic presentations.

Joan Stackpole demonstrated painting with watercolors. She displayed many of her creations for the students to view including watercolors, sketches, and mixed media.

Patti Kunz showed students how to make glass beads. She generously distributed many of her beads to the students. Jan Osterndorf, a third grade teacher at Juda School who makes glass beads and jewelry, also had many of her creations on display.

Rick Sherman, a professional cartoonist, demonstrated many of his cartooning talents. He showed students how to make caricatures. He also showed students how to make cartoon characters simply by drawing circles.

Romullo Ataides, an exchange student from Brazil, shared information about his country in honor of cultural art.

Beth Wood, an award winning singer-songwriter from Texas, performed original songs for the students and answered questions about her history in music and songwriting.

Fine Arts Day ended with an evening celebration of music and art. The event was open to the public and was organized by Tara Lund, Antonino Tarara and Jessica Blue. The evening kicked off with an art sale featuring creations by students of Juda School, as well as Lund, Osterndorf and Stackpole. Later in the evening Antonino Tarara, band director at Juda School, led the Juda Jazz Ensemble through an exciting performance with several of the student performers showcasing their abilities with solos.

The evening concluded with a performance by award winning singer-songwriter, Beth Wood. Wood is classically trained in piano, violin, harp and voice. During her college years she taught herself to play the guitar. She enjoys performing her music in bare feet and is known as the "barefoot acoustic enthusiast." She performed many of her original songs while on the piano or guitar. She ended the evening's performance with a beautiful a capella solo of "The Water is Wide."

Generous donations from the Bank of Juda, Sugar River Bank, Juda Booster Club, and Don and Brenda Olin made the performance by Beth Wood possible.
