Josh Meier, RN receives DAISY Award

MONROE — Josh Meier, RN, SSM Health Monroe Hospital ICU nurse, is the newest recipient of the DAISY Award.

The DAISY Award is an international program that celebrates the extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care delivered by nurses every day. Nurses may be nominated by patients, families, and colleagues. The award recipient is chosen based on specific criteria to receive The DAISY Award.

Josh was nominated by Janet, whose best friend had Josh as her nurse. Janet’s nomination shared:

“Recently, my best friend, Elaine, was transferred to SSM Health Monroe Hospital’s ICU. Her husband and I were very worried. Josh took it in stride. We could tell immediately that he was a very gentle, caring, and knowledgeable nurse. Josh explained what was happening, what he was doing, and what the plan was. When decisions had to be made about end-of-life, he was able to reassure us that Elaine would not suffer.

As more family came to say their goodbyes, Josh made such compassionate gestures. He took it upon himself to make everyone welcome by bringing in a cart with snacks and drinks. He also ran off a heart monitor strip for each of the family members to have as a memento.

Josh remained at Elaine’s bedside and cared for her with such tenderness. We were so lucky to have been given this incredible nurse during Elaine’s final days. Thank you for being with Elaine and her family during her last journey.”

Josh is one of three million nurses nationwide who represent the largest healthcare profession. SSM Health Monroe Hospital and SSM Health Monroe Clinic Medical Group employs over 230 nurses serving patients throughout southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois.
