FREEPORT - The Freeport/Stephenson County Visitors Center will open its 2009 Holiday Gift Expo on Friday.
The Expo display features a 12-foot Christmas tree surrounded by an assortment of unique holiday gift ideas. The products for sale at the Expo are manufactured in either Freeport or Stephenson County; commemorate local history; or promote local attractions, events, facilities, or organizations. Items from 70 vendors are available.
"This will be the fifth year for our Holiday Expo and it is becoming a tradition for visitors and local residents who are looking for unique gift ideas," said Visitors Center Executive Director Connie Sorn. "The gift items make great presents for former residents who have memories of the area; children who grew up here but now live away; or just local folks who have an interest in, and love of, our area."
This year's Holiday Expo includes books, Furst McNess and Terrapin Ridge food items, Mrs. Mike's cheese corn, cookbooks, Freeport Pretzel items, potato bags, collectible trucks, beer mugs, garden art, mittens, jewelry and lots more.
The Visitors Center, located at 4596 US Highway 20 east of Freeport, is open from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Funded by private donations, the center is designed to promote economic growth in Freeport and Stephenson County.
