MADISON - Hogs for Heroes is now accepting applications to give a gift of a motorcycle to a deserving Wisconsin veteran.
Hogs for Heroes is a Wisconsin nonprofit dedicated to healing the mental and physical wounds suffered by Wisconsin veterans during the course of active duty, through the therapeutic benefits of owning and riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. The Madison organization was founded in 2015 by Kevin and Audra Thompson, along with his brother and sister-in-law Craig and Michelle Thompson, with the belief that there is a long-standing tie between the military, its service members and the benefits of motorcycle riding.
The application period for Wisconsin veterans opened Monday and runs through March 6. Veterans can learn more about eligibility and apply at www.hogsforheroeswi.org.
This will be the organization's first Harley-Davidson to award to a Wisconsin veteran. The goal is to award one motorcycle at a time and recognize one veteran at a time, hoping to make the road a little smoother for a returning Wisconsin veteran, and to convey a collective message of gratitude for their service contributions. Funds for the motorcycles are obtained through fundraisers, bike nights and donations of time and money.
Fundraising is now underway for the next Harley-Davidson for a Wisconsin veteran: Donations may be made online at the Hogs for Heroes website, www.hogsforheroeswi.org.
