MONROE - A presentation of the Monroe Badger Foundation Scholarship to Jordan Hirsbrunner of Monroe was made Tuesday at the 64th annual Monroe Badger Days.
The scholarship is part of the Wisconsin Athletics Endowed Scholarship Program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In 2015, the Monroe Badger Foundation and Colony Brands pledged $1 million in scholarship money over five years for UW student-athletes. Hirsbrunner, who will enroll as a freshman at UW this fall, is the fourth individual to receive a scholarship.
Hirsbrunner graduated from Monroe High School earlier this month. She plans to attend UW as a track and field athlete. In high school, she competed in track and field, cross country and basketball, and help her teams claim numerous Badger Conference and WIAA state honors. She was the 2017 WIAA Division 2 state champion in the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles.
John Baumann, Colony Brands president and CEO, said the Monroe Badger Days group was thrilled to be able to help support Hirsbrunner as she begins her collegiate career. The evening also featured updates from several UW head coaches, including Paul Chryst, Greg Gard, Tony Granato, Mark Johnson and Jonathon Tsipis.
Monroe Badger Days was started by Ray Kubly, founder of The Swiss Colony. Pat Kubly, chairman of the board at Colony Brands, has continued the legacy in support of the UW Athletic Department. In 2016, more than $117,000 was donated to UW athletics from the Monroe Badger Foundation.
