Highland to add EMT degree amid shortage of providers

FREEPORT - Highland Community College plans to introduce a new emergency medical technician associates of applied science degree by fall 2009. During their regular April meeting, trustees approved plans to be submitted to the Illinois Community College Board for approval.

According to Director of Nursing, Dr. Shannon Lizer, "In light of the significant shortage of Emergency Medical Services providers in rural areas within HCC's district, this program will fill a critical need."
