MONROE - The Green County University of Wisconsin-Extension office annually presents an award to a local individual in recognition of their outstanding commitment to UW-Extension's educational outreach and research programs. Audrey Hein of Monroe was presented with the 2010 Friend of Extension award at the recent South Central Wisconsin Master Gardener annual meeting.
Hein has been involved in a wide variety of UW-Extension programming efforts and community activities. She has been active in the Green County Leaders program, having been a past participant, and is currently as a member of its executive committee. Hein is also a certified UW-Extension Master Gardener volunteer and assists UW-Extension staff in presenting horticulture information and conducting horticulture projects for the citizens of Green County.
"Audrey is one of those active individuals that every community needs to stay vibrant and growing. In addition to volunteering in the leadership and Master Gardener programs she has been a long time supporter of the partnership between Kiwanis, UW-Extension and the Monroe Clinic in getting the research based parenting newsletter out to all new parents who give birth at the Monroe Hospital," said Mark Mayer, Green County UW-Extension Department Head.
"It was a pleasure for me to present the award to Audrey," said Mayer. "Through her extensive involvement in a multitude of community programs she's certainly made a difference, and has had a very positive impact on the lives of many Green County residents. We would not succeed in our educational mission through UW-Extension without committed volunteers like Audrey and she truly epitomizes what life-long learning is all about."
