MONROE - Are you worried you or someone you know doesn't have enough money to pay for heating bills this winter? If so, check into the Green County Energy Assistance Program which provides a one-time payment per heating season to eligible households. This payment is intended to pay a portion of a household's heating and electric costs. The amount of heating assistance depends on the household's size, income, and past heating and electric costs. In most cases, the heating assistance benefit is applied directly to the household's bill with the fuel supplier.

Green County households can apply by calling 328-9344 to schedule an appointment or phone interview with an Energy Assistance staff member, or to request a mail-in application. Households need to provide information on their income and energy costs. The household's prior three months income is used to determine their eligibility for the program.

Here are the income guidelines for the program.

• Family of one: Monthly income, $1,300; annual income, $15,600
