FREEPORT - On Jan. 9 the Illinois Community College Board granted Highland Community College the status of "recognition continued," the highest recognition status issued by the ICCB. This means Highland Community College District 519 meets ICCB standards and is entitled to receive ICCB grants.
The decision was followed by an in-depth review process set forth by the ICCB as a part of its five-year cycle of "recognition" designed to ensure the state's community colleges are in compliance with state statues and standards.
The process includes the submission of a detailed self-evaluation, the district's responses to a draft report and an ICCB staff visit which took place in May of last year.
The "recognition continued" status granted HCC states that the college meets instructional, administrative, financial, facility and equipment standards established by the ICCB.
"We are pleased with the recognition, it is validation that the college is continuing to provide quality education, training and services to the residents of Northwest Illinois," HCC President Dr. Joe Kanosky said.
The college will undergo the next ICCB recognition evaluation in 2013.
