FREEPORT - Highland Community College Foundation recognized five distinguished alumni Oct. 19. Among the recipients were Stacey Brown and Tara Geiter, both Orangeville High School graduates.
Brown graduated from HCC in 1987. In 1989, she earned her Bachelor of Science in education from Western Illinois University. She taught in Pearl City from 1989-96. After a few years off, she returned to teaching in 2001 at Orangeville. She earned a master's degree in curriculum from National Louis University in 2004. She has coached sports and serves as an assigned mentor for new teachers in the district, where she is recognized as a leader and an outstanding teacher.
Geiter earned her associate degree in 2001. She completed her Bachelor of Science in business administration at NIU in 2003. Geiter has worked in the department of community relations at Kohl's corporate office since 2004 and is director of community relations. Her work for the company is centered on Kohl's philanthropic giving programs, including the "Kohl's Cares" program. Through her work, the company is a benefactor to several nonprofit organizations and charitable initiatives.
