Habitat seeks pedal power

MONROE - The fourth annual Bike 4 Habitat will be held on Saturday, May 16. This is Green County Habitat for Humanity's single largest fundraiser of the year. Last year, the event attracted cyclists from all around the mid-west and raised more than $12,000. It is hoped to make this year an even bigger success, and we need riders to make this happen. Consider joining as an individual, or put together a team, for a great bike ride through the rolling hills of Green County. There will be a 15- (road or trail) 30- 50-mile route to meet the ability of every rider.

The registration and all routes begin and end at Veterans Memorial Park in Brodhead. Check-in will begin at 7:30 a.m. with riders starting off around 8 a.m. The registration fee is $35 on the day of the event, ($30 in advance) and includes a free T-shirt, snacks along the routes and a meal at the end of the ride. Children, 16 and under, can ride along for free with a paid adult. Each rider is encouraged to get pledges, but it is not required.

"We really need to raise significant funds this year," said Rob Frie, president of the Green County Habitat for Humanity board. "We just finished two homes in Browntown, and have committed to building a home this summer in Monticello. We are currently around $50,000 short of the funds needed to complete this build."
