MONROE - Monroe Theatre Guild will be auditioning the support roles for its summer production of "The Odd Couple." This classic Neil Simon play gained popularity when it was first opened on Broadway in 1965.
The show tells the story of two mismatched friends, Felix Unger and Oscar Madison. Felix is a neat, tidy, health nut who works as a photographer at a portrait studio and is a connoisseur of classical music. After his wife divorces him, Felix in desperate need of a place to live, moves in with his longtime childhood friend, Oscar Madison, a sports journalist for the New York Times. What he realizes is that Oscar is the exact opposite of him: sloppy, messy, and unhealthy. Felix's cleaning, hygienic tips, and healthiness annoys Oscar while Oscar's crazy world of living like a pig upsets Felix.
The Monroe rendition will feature Chris Weis in the role of Oscar Madison and Andy Stoffels in the role of Felix Unger.
The support roles for this show include Oscar's four poker buddies, Murray, Roy, Speed, and Vinnie. Two adult females also need to be cast for the Pigeon sisters. Auditions for these roles will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 16; from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 17 and from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 18, at the Monroe Theatre Guild "STAGE" building at 910 16th Avenue in Monroe. Any adults aged 20's to 50's are welcome to audition. Rehearsals will begin the last week of April and will culminate in six performances at the Monroe High School Performing Arts Center on June 19-21 and June 25-27. The show is directed by Chris Weis with John Baumann assisting.
